The deadline for hundreds of thousands of university students in Peru to obtain the automatic baccalaureate expired at the end of December of this year; However, this was voided on the afternoon of Thursday, December 14, after voting in the Plenary Session of the Congress of the Republic on a legislative proposal to extend said period that was about to expire.
With 103 votes in favor, 4 against and 6 abstentions, the legislators decided to give the green light to the extension of the automatic bachelor's degree in favor of graduates from public and private universities . The approval of the parliamentary initiative affects the complementary provision of Law 31803 (which modifies the so-called University Law ).
It should be noted that the said University Law , enacted in 2014, eliminated the automatic baccalaureate for university graduates as of 2020, with the aim of promoting quality research in the country.

According to legislator José Balcázar Zelada, from Perú Bicentenario, who is head of the Education Commission, this extension is given under the thought that the labor market needs professionals.
Parliamentarian José Elías , from Podemos Peru, who is the author of the aforementioned project, also participated in the session. During his argument, he stated that the expansion responds to the fact that there are universities that “are going to finish their classes between February and March 2024, and would not have the possibility of automatic baccalaureate .”
