The Government of President Nayib Bukele is advancing in its efforts to comprehensively improve the education system. During the current administration, the largest investment has been allocated to provide teachers and students with tools that help reduce the digital divide.

Added to these actions is the intervention of schools that for decades have remained in poor condition on a national scale. In the past, governments have not even taken it upon themselves to legalize the land where many of the public schools are located.

The Ministry of Public Works (MOP) in coordination with the Ministry of Education (MINED) is supporting the preparation of technical folders for the rehabilitation or improvement of the centers.

“50 school centers have already been awarded, to start building them in different parts of the country and that will undoubtedly be an important change in the school infrastructure of children and young people. They are in the process of signing the contract, then the start order, and not only that, at this moment 16 more schools are in bidding and tomorrow CABEI is going to give us a no objection to bid 26 additional schools," explained the minister. of Public Works, Romeo Rodríguez.

To these are added another 300 centers that are currently in the no-objection stage of the World Bank (WB), which is financing this school improvement project together with other financial organizations such as the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

“For the first time in history, they are going to invest in all the educational centers, we know that it takes time to bid, award and build, but the important thing is that progress is being made, without counting all the ones that the DOM is also intervening that it is doing a strong job on the issue of improving educational centers,” said the official.

Both CABEI and the World Bank have prioritized the poorest and most vulnerable areas of the country, where the infrastructure is not in optimal conditions. Some centers to intervene are in places such as: Potonico, Ilobasco, Concepción de Oriente, Conchagua, Atiquizaya, Tacuba, Armenia, Izalco, Jayaque, Soyapango, among others.
