As the clock ticks down to the end of their secondary school journey, more than 12,200 South Australian Year 12 students are gearing up to tackle their final exams. The South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) examinations commenced today, marking a significant milestone in the academic careers of these students.

“Our Year 12 students should be very proud of all their achievements this year, with exams the culmination of all the hard work,” Minister for Education, Training and Skills, Blair Boyer.

“I appreciate this can be a stressful time for our Year 12s but all the hard work and dedication each of them applied throughout the year, will have them well-prepared for these next few weeks.

“It’s also important to remember, exams are only one part of the final grade – students will continue to have a bright future in whatever endeavour they choose to follow.”

The Year 12 exams kicked off with a focus on mathematics, as students faced questions in Mathematical Methods and General Mathematics. These subjects represent the initial phase of the main examination group, which will span the next 11 days, concluding with Geography and Tourism subjects on November 17.

This year’s SACE exams come after the language exams, which started late last month. In total, there are 72 Stage 2 SACE subjects, each with an exam component, ensuring a comprehensive assessment of students’ knowledge and skills.

Among the Stage 2 SACE subjects, four have drawn a particularly large number of students for the 2023 examinations. These subjects are:

General Mathematics – Boasting an impressive 4,160 students taking the exam on November 6.
Biology – Attracting 3,096 students for the exam, scheduled for November 10.
Mathematical Methods – With 2,853 students facing the challenge on November 6.
Psychology – Attracting 2,597 students, who will be tested on November 14.
The diversity of subjects and the significant number of students involved highlight the broad spectrum of talents and interests within the Year 12 cohort.

For these Year 12 students, the exams—whether paper-based, electronic, or oral—represent the culmination of years of hard work and dedication.

“The SACE Board wishes all students involved in final exams well and reminds them to take care of themselves and each other and be proud of their schooling achievements over the past 13 years,” SACE Board Chief Executive Michaela Bensley.

The results will not only determine their individual achievements but also impact their future academic and career paths. All students can anticipate receiving their SACE results on December 18, adding an element of excitement and anticipation to the holiday season.

To support students through this challenging period, the SACE website offers a comprehensive exam timetable, guidance on the SACE process, and valuable study tips. These resources ensure that students are well-prepared and equipped to excel in their examinations. From time management to stress management, the SACE website covers essential aspects of exam preparation.

“As they embark on their next chapter in life – whether it be further study, a break or beginning their career – the education they have received in South Australia, along with the advice and commitment of their teachers, will no doubt provide a wonderful foundation for their years ahead,”  Boyer says.
