The Government decided to maintain the rules for access to higher education and completion of secondary education that it exceptionally defined last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic and cancel the scouting and 9th grade exams.

The measures were approved this Thursday at the Council of Ministers meeting and released by the Ministry of Education (ME), which explains the decision with the fact that students have, this school year, returned to distance classes due to the worsening of the pandemic of Covid-19, which means different learning speeds.

Thus, as in the past academic year, a set of exceptional and temporary measures regarding the assessment and certification of students' learning in primary and secondary education has now been approved once again.

The Government decided to cancel the assessment tests – held annually by students in the 2nd, 5th and 8th grades – as well as the final exams of the 3rd cycle, aimed at 9th grade students.

The rules for access to higher education, which are the responsibility of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (MCTES), and the completion of secondary education are once again carried out in exactly the same way as in the previous academic year.

Thus, students finish secondary education only with an internal classification, that is, they will not need to take the exams for their conclusion and certification.

Only students who intend to apply for higher education will take exams, and must register and take the entrance exams they want.

In the case of Professional and Artistic Education, “distance taking of Professional and Artistic Aptitude Tests is allowed, in case of need, and simulated practice”, adds the ME.

“To continue the diagnosis of lost learning, essential for the planning of future measures, a sample study is carried out, for which the use of measurement instruments is foreseen on the foreseen dates”, underlines the Ministry of Education's office.

The cancellation of the scouting tests and final exams for the 9th grade cycle, as well as the resumption of the rules established for access to higher education are known on the day the Council of Ministers also approved the deconfinement calendar, which defines the dates for the gradual return to face-to-face teaching.

In the first phase of deconfinement, which starts on March 15th (next Monday), day care centers, kindergartens and 1st cycle schools reopen. After the Easter holidays, on April 5th, it is the turn of 2nd and 3rd cycle students to return to face-to-face classes, according to a calendar that also defines the return to face-to-face of secondary and higher education students in April.
