Professional Development

Promote professional development for oneself and/or others in the international admissions office in order to enhance academic knowledge and facilitate innovative practices.

Content knowledge requirements: Identify resources for professional development; Ability to remain current with any trends on international education; Participate in international education conferences; Give presentations; join webinars, peer groups and professional organizations; Contribute in international education journals or forums.

Skill requirements: Presentation and public speaking skills; Excellent academic writing and research skills; Commitment to continued professional development.

Ethical requirements: Truthfulness and integrity; Follow institution’s procedures and policies; Flexibility and willingness to undertake and learn new tasks. Strict adherence to professional standards and ethical statements of associated professional organizations.

Expertise Levels

Entry level: Participate in events, conferences or webinars on a limited basis.

Intermediate level: Occasionally represent international admission office with institutional partners, and in professional organizations and membership associations.

Expert level: Give professional presentations to international and external audiences on a variety of topics; Attend workshops and conferences as a representative of the institution in a regular basis; Promote professional development to others in the international admissions office; Participate in listserv and forums for international education; Contribute in academic journals about international education; Familiar with professional organizations (i.e AACRAO, TAICEP, NAFSA etc) Maintain professional membership in organizations relating to international higher education.
