AACRAO is at the forefront of issues supporting gender identity recognition, and in many cases leads the charge to push for more inclusive institutional policies.
AACRAO members are working diligently to update their practices to recognize students' gender identity, using preferred names and pronouns to ensure transgender students’ privacy in a supportive and nondiscriminatory school environment.
In order to develop guidance for institutions on serving transgender students and students who wish to update their gender marker, AACRAO recently created the "Student Identity Working Group," which is comprised of Registrar and Admission Officers from fourteen higher education institutions.
AACRAO expects to release recommendations from this working group in early 2018.
