Why 95 percent of AACRAO members don't vote

red ballot being placed in a box with the text "voting matters" displayed Did you know it only takes a little over 300 votes for an AACRAO member on the candidate slate to win an AACRAO Board position? Why so few votes? Because in 2017 only 560 members voted. In 2016, 544 voted.

After shifting to electronic voting in 2013, AACRAO was confident it would reach the industry standard of 10 percent member engagement around its elections--about 1000 voting members. We were wrong.

As a voluntary member association, AACRAO thrives on member engagement, so participation matters -- and we want to know why members aren't stepping up to the ballot box. Are we failing to get the message out? Are there too many obstacles to voting? Are you not engaged in the nominations and elections process, or in the organization overall?

Voting takes less than five minutes and just three steps:
1. Login.*
2. Read candidate statements.
3. Choose your candidate.
If you're reading this article, then you care about AACRAO. Please, take a moment to learn about the candidates and vote in the 2018 election.

Not voting? Let us know why. We want your AACRAO membership to serve you.
