"Meet the AACRAO Staff" is an occasional Connect feature. It’s one way for members to get to know some of the folks hard at work in the AACRAO office. Another way? Come see us in D.C.--we’ll roll out the welcome mat for you!

This week, we talked with AACRAO’s very own SEM Doctor, Tom Green. Dr. Green has 27 years of experience as an enrollment manager, and late last year became AACRAO’s Associate Executive Director, Consulting and SEM.

How long have you been at AACRAO?

I worked for AACRAO as an independent contractor since 2006, and my job has changed many times since then. In 2014, I worked part-time for AACRAO Consulting as the Director of Technology Solutions and consultant. Last Fall, I became the Associate Executive Director for Consulting and SEM.

In my current position, I’m responsible for everything related to strategic enrollment management.  I oversee AACRAO Consulting, I am the Editor-in-Chief of SEM Quarterly, and I’m responsible for any SEM-related content delivered through books, conferences and web information.

What are some projects that you have this year?

Right now, we’re involved in looking at how we present the services of AACRAO Consulting to our members and the higher education community at large, whether it’s developing a SEM plan or reviewing your registrar’s office. We’re not changing what we do, but we’re defining what we’re doing a little bit better. That’s going to involve redoing some parts of the website and our print material to clearly communicate to people what AACRAO Consulting can do for them.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

My wife and I live in Summit, New Jersey, close to New York City. We frequent art museums, such as MoMA and the Met, and Broadway theaters.

My wife and I are also fortunate enough to have family living all over the country, from Boston to Hawaii. We’re always traveling somewhere to see family. Last Christmas, we did a 1500 mile driving trip around the Midwest to see family and friends.

My wife’s work is heavily involved with pharmaceutical production in the European Union, so when we have the chance, we travel around Europe. One of the fun things we like to do is collect wine, specifically champagne and burgundy.

What is something about you that most of our members would be surprised to know?

I started my career as a classical musician (trombonist and composer) in Chicago. I became a faculty member at a conservatory, and that’s how I got my start in higher education.
