AACRAO's work in re-envisioning institutional transfer practices and ensuring transfer student success continues to be a primary focus in 2022. Whether it is through research, providing resources, or offering a platform for leading transfer experts to share information, AACRAO is committed to supporting and leading the transfer conversation.

AACRAO's decades-long participation and work in re-envisioning transfer continues at the 107th AACRAO Annual Meeting. As higher education experts worldwide gather in Portland, OR, this April, re-envisioning transfer will be one of the prominent topics of the meeting.

We were able to catch up with two of our 2022 Annual Meeting session presenters, Dr. Andrew Crawford of Kent State University, presenting "From Competitors to Partners: Redefining Relationships Between Public Community Colleges and Universities," and Anthony Edwards of Tarleton State University, presenting "Using Social Media to Support Transfer Admissions.

Dr. Crawford's presentation, "From Competitors to Partners: Redefining Relationships Between Public Community Colleges and Universities," examines the relationship between Kent State University and its regional two-year partners and how creating degree pathways and scalable transfer programs and services improve upon and support transfer student access and success. Speaking on his session, Dr. Crawford said:

The higher education landscape is changing. We all sense it and see it in the national demographic trends. This might lead institutions to conclude the path forward is to circle the wagons and treat peer institutions as competitors. We’ve learned there is a better way. Our goal for this session is to demonstrate, through our experience of working with other state community colleges, that this is not the only way to become sustainable during these trying times.

Session attendees will gain insight into:

  • Best practices and lessons learned
  • Creating a transfer student experience
  • Sharing resources amongst institutions

Mr. Edward's session, "Using Websites and Social Media to Support Transfer Admission," looks at how institutions can leverage social media to support transfer students and aims to create a collaborative and engaging environment for attendees. Mr. Edward gave a brief overview of his session, saying:

I’m so excited to share examples of ways colleges and universities are using websites and social media to reach transfer students. This aligns with AACRAO’s focus on Re-Envisioning Transfer and transfer student success.

This session will be informative, interactive, and engaging. I look forward to learning from everyone at the conference and I hope you will consider attending.
