The majority of countries in Asia do not provide scholarships to students seeking an education outside of those countries. Many more provide scholarships to foreign students seeking an education within those countries, and just as many provide scholarships for their own students wanting to study at a postsecondary institution within their country. As a result, most of the available scholarships for studying abroad are provided by agencies and foundations other than the government.

Nevertheless, students in Asia looking for scholarships to study abroad can find a list here. And for a list of scholarships available to international students in general, students can look here

Below is information on scholarships in Kazakhstan, as well as links to our previously published Asian countries.

There are more than 100,000 Kazakh students studying in colleges and universities outside of Kazakhstan. According to Export.gov,1,865 of those students studied in the U.S. in 2018 with 65 percent of them studying at the bachelor’s level. Ninety percent of Kazakh students studying overseas are self-funded.

Nevertheless, Kazakhstan awards scholarships to high-performing students who want to study abroad through its Bolashak International Scholarship program. According to NAFSA, “The Bolashak International Scholarship is awarded to high-performing students from Kazakhstan to study overseas all-expenses paid, provided that they return to Kazakhstan to work for at least 5 years after graduation. Since its implementation in 1993, more than 10,000 students have been awarded the scholarship. Most of these students travel to study in English-speaking destinations, including the United States."

To access the application and find out more about the program, visit its official site: https://www.bolashak.gov.kz/en/o-stipendii/istoriya-razvitiya.html.
