The purpose of the April 2022 60-Second Survey was to conduct initial research on enrollment management at the graduate and/or professional levels.

Of the 340 responses, 331 are from the U.S., seven are from Canada, and both Armenia and Switzerland reported one response. Eighty-four percent of respondents serve both graduate and undergraduate/professional students.

Some key facts and findings:

Institutions face many challenges in addressing strategic enrollment; several of these reflect similar issues experienced at the undergraduate level. A key player contributing to this effect is the lack of a dominant model for determining the primary responsibility for graduate and/or professional-level enrollment management within the institution:

  • 44% report that a centralized graduate school/admissions office is responsible for graduate and/or professional enrollment management
  • 33% report that a central enrollment management area is primarily responsible for yield communication with graduate and/or professional applicants
  • top enrollment management issues include recruitment, insufficient campus resources to support goals, and lacking an enrollment structure and/or clear goals.

Unless otherwise noted in a specific report, the AACRAO member institution size, type and control categories are based on the following definitions and sources:
The enrollment value used to delineate the institution's size category is defined as full-time enrollment plus 1/3 of part-time enrollment and is based on the enrollment reported by the institution to the U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics (NCES).
Institution type and control values are also defined by and verified through NCES criteria.
