Moderated by AACRAO SEM Conference Director Clayton Smith, panelists will discuss how SEM teams are being deployed in support of SEM at two- and four-year institutions, and how institutions can enhance the effectiveness of their teams by participating in the AACRAO SEM Conference Team Experience.

Presenter: Karen Miller, Ph.D.
Executive Vice President/Provost of the Access, Learning & Success Division, Cuyahoga Community College

Dr. Miller is the Executive Vice President/Provost of the Access, Learning & Success Division at Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C).  She previously served as the Vice President of Institutional Research and Enrollment Management, overseeing recruitment, enrollment, retention and completion initiatives for the College. She also managed the Evidence and Inquiry department, leading initiatives such as the Community College Survey of Student Engagement, IPEDS relationship and research, and data requests from throughout the College. Dr. Miller serves on several College-wide administrative leadership teams, and has contributed to the development and implementation the College’s strategic plan, the enrollment plan, and all of Tri-C’s student policies and procedures to enhance student success.  

Dr. Miller is also a statewide and nationally recognized leader in higher education, and has presented at numerous conferences and conventions, including the American Association of Community Colleges Annual Convention, the Institute for Higher Education Policy & Lumina Foundation, the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers Strategic Enrollment Conference, and the National Noel Levitz Retention Conference.  As a Chancellor appointed position, Dr. Miller served on the Ohio Transfer & Articulation Network (as well as the OTAN Oversight Board and she also serves on the National Enrollment Management Advisory Board for the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Offices.  Dr. Miller is also a graduate of the League for Innovation in the Community College’s Executive Leadership Institute.

Reporting to the TWU University Chancellor and President, Randall provides vision and leadership to staff in the Offices of Admissions, Registrar, Financial Aid and Admissions Processing. Randall is responsible for providing leadership to staff, developing strategic enrollment management plans, and developing statistical and mathematical data analysis. 

Prior to TWU, Randall worked at The College at Brockport – State University of New York as Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management. Randall has also worked as the Executive Director of Enrollment Management at the University of Northern Colorado, Director of Admissions Services at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Findlay and at the University of Denver.

Randall earned a Ph.D. degree in Higher Education from The University of The Free State (Republic of South Africa), a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from Texas Tech University, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston State University (TX).

Clayton Smith

Clayton Smith is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Windsor after serving 12 years as Vice-Provost and Dean of Students. Over the course of his career, Dr. Smith has amassed significant knowledge and expertise in the area of enrollment management.

Known for his focus on comparative enrollment management, Dr. Smith has performed collaborative research into the distinctive qualities of enrollment management in the United States and Canada that has allowed educational leaders from both countries to compare and share promising practices. In 2011, Dr. Smith coedited SEM in Canada: Promoting Student and Institutional Success in Canadian Colleges and Universities. 

Dr. Smith is a frequent national and international presenter on strategic enrollment management, international student success, and student affairs topics. Dr. Smith is a leader in the field of enrollment management, with special emphasis on the areas of institutional SEM readiness, implementing SEM, enrollment planning, international student affairs, marketing and student recruitment, and student success and retention.
