About the Job

POSITION SUMMARY
Interns will participate in a number of activities, such as attending and reporting on Congressional hearings and federal agency briefings, carrying out research projects, interacting with other members of the higher education community, and other projects and efforts as necessary.

Some of the specific tasks will include: 

  • Identify and track policy developments, federal legislative and regulatory developments of interest to the AACRAO constituency
  • Draft messaging for official statements, form letters, and updates as needed 
  • Monitor federal issues, policy topics and professional/industry issues that affect higher education institutions and communicate this information to AACRAO members 
  • Become an integral member of the Government Relations team in support for AACRAOs Capitol Hill/Advocacy day that will be held during the summer months.
  • Additional tasks/projects as assigned
An internship with AACRAO is first and foremost a unique educational experience for students 
considering a career in higher education or public policy. In all instances, we work with our interns to make the experience as relevant to the students’ educational goals and career aspirations as possible.

    About You

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (spelling, grammar, punctuation, letter/memo formats).
    • Strong editing, proofreading skills, planning/organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Self-starter with a strong customer service orientation.  
    • Ability to handle multiple priorities within deadlines.
    • Team player with the ability to interact with all levels internally and externally. 
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 
    • Undergraduate/Graduate student in education/public policy/journalism/communications or related field.
