Dear Readers,
Having options can feel liberating. Some suggest that autonomy and free will are powerful drivers of happiness, like the concept of “choice freedom,” according to a 2022 article in the Journal of Consumer Psychology. I tend to agree. However, I was recently reminded by a trusted colleague during their presentation that information overload can make choosing from many options feel burdensome, creating a paradox of choice. Still, I remain an optimist—a word that shares the prefix “op-” with that of “option,” from the Latin “optionem,” or “liberty to choose.”
I believe in the power of small intentional choices, and I say this for two reasons:
- If you’re an AACRAO Voting Member, you have the power to vote for the next leaders on the AACRAO Board of Directors. Make sure you cast your ballot by Monday, November 3.
- Some of you will be reading this issue’s email in the standard format, while others will be reading a newly designed email with new features.
In both instances, you have options to choose your own professional adventure. Whether in AACRAO elections or an A/B test, your collective choices guide where we grow next.
In this issue:
- What Happens When ‘The Exchange’ Turns Two…
