AACRAO Joins Community Letter Objecting to Proposed Changes to the Regulatory Framework for Federal Grant Making

AACRAO joined a broad coalition of over 50 higher education groups in raising concerns with proposed changes to the Office of Management and Budget’s “uniform guidance,” a regulatory framework for how the federal government engages in grantmaking. OMB’s proposed rule would impact all recipients of federal grant funding, including institutions of higher education, and would undermine the fairness and proven evaluation methods of the current award process. The community letter affirms the belief that the awarding of research funding should be based on merit and raises concern that the proposed rule moves away from this, thereby undermining the nation’s economic power and ability to compete on the global stage.
