Dear Readers,
Spring term is culminating with commencement—you could say your graduates are blooming. But what about you—how will you bloom this spring? I think of this as our family works on our garden at home, watching the roses pop out and the mint spread, while we make way for new growth—planting lavender, arbors, and ninebarks to take root this season and return next year. The word plant traces to the Latin “planta,” or sole of the foot, because early cultivation meant pressing cuttings into the earth with your heel. It’s intentional and grounded. New growth and new learning require that we also dig or press in long before we can see what becomes of it. I’m trying to do the same: updating my skills, refocusing my strengths, and leaning into unfamiliar spaces, trusting the roots I can’t see yet.
