As the competition for student enrollment has increased over the past several years, the pressure on the enrollment manager has increased proportionally. Managing enrollment expectations for institutional stakeholders requires effective communication, leadership, and the sharing of data with effective context. This article provides guidance on how to lead enrollment discussions with a wide range of institutional stakeholders.

pope_headshotAlexis S. Pope, Ph.D., has served as Director of Admissions at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, since 2015 and previously as the Director of Admissions at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tennessee.
His areas of interest and focus are diversity and inclusion, college access, social mobility, innovation, technology, sustainable practices, organizational leadership, machine learning and analytics, and the admissions profession. He received his
bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education—Biochemistry and master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from Tennessee Tech University and his doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Tennessee State University after completing a
dissertation on the “Effects of Non-Cognitive Factors in STEM Attrition among High-Performing Students.”

davies_headshotSusan Davies, Ph.D., has served as Vice President for Enrollment and Student Affairs at Augusta University since March 2018. In this role she provides leadership and supervision to thirteen departments that support the student
experience. She earned her B.A. in English from Georgia Southern University, her M.A. in College Student Development from Bowling Green State University, and her Ph.D. in Educational Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Previously, she served as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Services at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Associate Vice Chancellor for Enrollment Management at Appalachian State University, and
Director of Admissions at Georgia Southern University.
