In his chapter titled “Integrating Evolving Perspectives: The Roots and Wings of Strategic Enrollment Management,” Stanley Henderson (2012) provides an excellent analysis of the genesis of strategic enrollment management (SEM) and its progression through forty or so years as a profession. He describes a profession born out of necessity which remains critical to the overall decision making on college campuses. Henderson credits the many men and women who have nurtured the profession through the trials and tribulations that refined it into what is now called strategic enrollment management.

Scot Lingrell, Ph.D. has been the vice president for student affairs and enrollment management at the University of West Georgia since 2012 after having served as the associate vice president since 2005. He has held numerous

Dr. Lingrell has presented at numerous national conferences around issues of organizational leadership and management, using data to make strategic decisions, and strategic enrollment planning. He has served AACRAO as a committee chair of the
Enrollment Management and Retention Committee. He is the author of a chapter titled “Getting it Right: Data and Good Decisions” in the book Strategic Enrollment Management: Transforming Higher Education, and was the 2009 inaugural
recipient of the AACRAO SEM Award of Excellence.
