British Council has announced the suspension of all IELTS exams in Vietnam until further notice

On the afternoon of November 9, many IELTS test takers received an email from the British Council announcing the postponement of the test.

"We regret to announce that all British Council IELTS exams in Vietnam will be postponed until further notice. Therefore, your exam on 10/11/2022 will be cancelled." Extract the content of the email sent to the candidates.

This information was then posted on the website of the British Council in Vietnam last night. According to the British Council, this decision is "out of control" and affects all international language proficiency exams in Vietnam.

"When the exams are resumed will depend on the approval of the Ministry of Education and Training and we are working closely with the Ministry to obtain the necessary approvals as soon as possible." .

Mr. Dinh Quang Tung, a teacher at an IELTS test preparation center in Ho Chi Minh City, said that the British Council's website had closed all computer-based exam registrations until November 16. Another unit that organizes the IELTS test, IDP, also closes registration for the test until the end of this week.

The Ministry of Education and Training on November 8 sent an official dispatch requesting the Departments to strengthen the management of linkages and organizations to issue foreign language proficiency certificates. The ministry requested to check and review conditions for organizing foreign language certification exams according to Circular 11 , issued at the end of July. "Localities only allow organizations and individuals to organize certification exams. foreign languages ​​when there is a decision on approval and extension of association by the Ministry," the Ministry's official dispatch stated.

International English Language Testing System ( IELTS ) is an international English language testing system, including four skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, for the purposes of study, work and settlement. IELTS is currently recognized in more than 11,000 institutions in 140 countries. In 2018, this exam has reached the milestone of 3.5 million tests globally.

In Vietnam, in the past, most candidates took IELTS to supplement their certificates to study abroad, work abroad or teach English at non-public schools and centers. But in recent years, many Vietnamese universities tend to enroll students with IELTS scores combined with academic records or high school graduation exam scores. In addition, if having this certificate, students will be exempted from some English courses and considered for recognition of foreign language output standards.

Two units organize the IELTS test in Vietnam, the British Council and the international educational organization IDP, the exam fee is more than 4.6 million VND each time.
