AACRAO Releases 2025 Chief Admissions Officer Career-Profile Report

The American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) has published its fourth Chief Admissions Officer (CAdO) Career-Profile Report. The first, second, and third survey reports were completed in 2016, 2019, and 2022, respectively. The reports help build an understanding of CAdO's responsibilities over time and provide those seeking entry into the career an understanding of the typical career path.

The AACRAO career-profile series consists of survey reports on Chief Admissions Officers (CAdO) and Registrars. The purpose of this series of reports is to build a longitudinal understanding of the career profiles and position responsibilities for these roles, and to provide those seeking an equivalent position with an understanding of the typical career path for doing so.

This report was made possible by a sample of 268 U.S. Chief Admissions Officers who participated in our survey and the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), which assisted in sharing the survey.

Insights from this report include:

  • How the CAdO is positioned within an institution.
  • The career path leading to the current CAdO position.
  • Challenges of the position.
  • Job satisfaction.
  • Demographic information
  • And more.
Based on AACRAO Research, a CAdO is responsible for an institution’s academic programming and vision and can have different position titles depending on the institution.
