The Joint Statement on Credit Evaluation & Learning Mobility is a shared commitment to improving the way learning is recognized across higher education. Developed through the work of the Learning Evaluation and Recognition for the Next Generation (LEARN) Commission, the statement calls on institutions, associations, employers, and other organizations to advance more transparent, learner-centered approaches to credit evaluation and learning recognition. Rather than advocating for new mandates, the Joint Statement challenges higher education to lead by embracing practices that go beyond regulatory requirements and demonstrate the profession’s commitment to serving learners.
The LEARN Commission is a collaborative initiative led by AACRAO and Sova through the Beyond Transfer initiative. Together, the organizations have convened leaders from across higher education and the broader learning ecosystem to identify practical ways to improve learning mobility, reduce unnecessary barriers, and create clearer pathways for learners. The resulting Joint Statement reflects a shared belief that meaningful, lasting change is strongest when it is driven by the higher education community itself, not simply by legislation or compliance requirements.
Organizations that have signed or support the Joint Statement are encouraged to share the initiative with their communities and help broaden the conversation. One of the most important ways to contribute is by encouraging colleagues and stakeholders to complete the Learning Mobility in Practice Survey. The survey will help inform future recommendations and ensure they reflect the experiences of institutions, learners, employers, and partners across higher education.
