Opal Bartzis

Opal Leeman Bartzis is Assistant Dean for Global Learning and Innovation & Executive Director of Education Abroad at Michigan State University. She serves as the International Group Coordinator for AACRAO as part of the Program Committee and was previously AACRAO’s Education Abroad Committee Chair. She is also active in NAFSA: Association of International Educators and the Forum on Education Abroad. She holds a doctorate in adult, higher and community education and doctoral certificates in college & university teaching and community college leadership. She studied abroad in Switzerland, Russia and Lithuania and worked in Ireland for three years as the resident director for the Institute for Study Abroad, Butler University. Her research areas include academic ethics across cultures, student teaching abroad, sustainable study abroad, and appreciative advising.
