Dear Readers,
To “enroll” once meant to “record in a register or write in a roll” of parchment as a record of who belonged. Centuries later, our registrars and enrollment professionals still carry that human tradition where each record represents a learner’s possibility or future. In 1974, Frank Campanella stated: “I am convinced that enrollment management will soon be the ‘name of the game.’ I am equally convinced that it will require a coordinated and integrated effort of the highest order.” He was right, along with colleague John Maguire, who brought the term “enrollment management” into print 50 years ago. Our community is gathered in Baltimore for the 36th Annual AACRAO Conference on Strategic Enrollment Management, and this special issue, Live from #SEM2026, features some of the people and partnerships that keep the learner scroll and institutional role growing.
In this issue:
- Let Students Lead the Way to Enrollment
- Branding Essentials and Practical Guidance on Brand-Building
- Build Belonging Before Transfer
- “Stories make up who we are.”
- Ask the FERPA Professors
With appreciation,
