Dear Readers,

The “Pausa de hidratación,” or hydration break, has become a low-key controversial World Cup event that I particularly enjoy. In real life, the game stops, the “injured” player looks up and stops acting hurt, the crowd jeers, the ads play (if you’re unfortunate enough to still get them on your service plan), and players sip liquids and cool off. In some cases, the field is also watered. It’s also an opportunity to take a break from the tension of watching your team get dominated, or your friends screaming, yelling, jumping up and down, spilling food, disrespecting your furniture, etc. In internet meme land, you might find an image of a celebrity sipping wine from the box seats, or a chaotic scene abruptly interrupted for a dainty sip of tea before the chaos resumes. Stay vigilant with your hydration breaks year-round, even if the crowd disapproves. The weather can be unforgiving, and so can an unwatered spirit.
