Welcome to the new AACRAO website. While the site is live, development is ongoing, visitors can expect updates and new features in the weeks ahead.

Dear Readers,

Recognition comes from Latin “recognoscere”—more literally, “to know again.” It’s a second knowing: seeing someone or something with fresh clarity. That kind of noticing takes practice and intention, and it shows up in more ways than we usually name.

We recognize achievement when we confer credentials, publish honors, or simply acknowledge the quiet labor that keeps people and systems moving forward. We recognize potential in mentoring when we know what excellence looks like and can spot it emerging. We recognize pain points when we understand what should be there but isn’t. And we recognize risk when patterns don’t align—because you can’t spot a counterfeit identity, a policy violation, or a fraudulent action unless you know the legitimate version well enough to notice the difference.

Sometimes the recognition is public. Sometimes it’s private. Sometimes it’s protective. And sometimes it’s simply stepping aside—removing barriers so someone else can shine through.

This issue explores the many forms recognition can take when we’re leading with intention.

In this issue:

With appreciation,
