Dear Readers,
“Place” came through Old French, from the Latin “platea,” rooted in the Greek “plateia”—an open space or broad way. It seems a place is all you need to just exist—there’s no prerequisite for what you need to do there, but it allows the freedom to move, grow, adjust, or simply be. I start most of my writing with scattered uses of the literal word “placeholder.” This issue shows how place shows up in our community. Learners transferring between institutions are searching for a new place to learn while building lives and careers, but without paths, too many lose their place and the value of years of learning. Professionals may need a coach to help them earn their place in executive leadership. AACRAO invites you to place yourself at the table for a new credit-for-prior-learning initiative, or to imagine how your institution can incorporate how the LER Accelerator coalition is actively reimagining SIS technology usage. Lastly, our Government Relations team shares how to replace old accreditation terminology. It’s always a good time to make a placeholder for history and what’s happening or coming soon.
