You’ve heard of audiobooks … but have you heard of books delivered by webinar? Ok, maybe you’ve heard of that too, but now you can actually sign up for a series of webinars that covers each chapter of the 2026 FERPA Addendum “Navigating the Evolving Landscape of Student Privacy under FERPA,” authored by Phillip Dale King and Michelle Mott.

This six-part webinar series begins with the first live webinar on August 25 and runs through January 2027. “Each webinar stands on its own, so professionals can attend the session most relevant to an immediate campus issue,” said Dale King, AACRAO Senior Fellow and FERPA Professor. “Taken together, the sessions help participants see how these issues connect and build a broader, more current understanding of FERPA compliance.”

The full listing is included below. This is a paid webinar series. However, registration is complimentary for members, while non-members are $25 per webinar, or you can purchase the full series bundle for $100. You can sign up for as few or as many sessions as you can, and you can access recordings after the live webinar has completed.

“FERPA questions rarely arise in isolation,” continued King. “Live discussion allows participants to compare experiences, hear how other institutions are handling similar challenges, and think through practical scenarios with colleagues who understand the realities of campus work.”

And now, here’s a quick “Ask the FERPA Professor” with three questions and answers about the series. Each webinar offers an opportunity to uncover a new layer of FERPA you may not know about.

Why was a six-part webinar series the right format?

King: The book covers six distinct areas of student privacy, from defining education records to data governance, immigration enforcement, FERPA and HIPAA, artificial intelligence, and prison education programs. A six-part series gives each topic enough attention without asking participants to absorb the entire compliance landscape in one sitting.

How does the series connect to AACRAO’s broader training and consulting resources?

King: The series offers an accessible starting point for institutions that are beginning to reassess their practices, while also giving more experienced professionals a way to update their knowledge. It complements AACRAO’s FERPA guides, training resources, tailored campus training, and policy support.

What do you hope participants take back to campus?

King: I hope participants leave with practical ideas they can use immediately, such as a policy to review, a staff-training topic to address, a vendor question to raise, or a process that needs clearer ownership. Most importantly, I hope they see FERPA as an ongoing institutional responsibility that depends on coordination, good judgment, and a culture of protecting student privacy.
