This article explores the perceptions of senior enrollment managers at Canadian colleges and universities regarding the effectiveness of using the Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) model within the Canadian context. The research design consists of a qualitative approach involving 23 individual interviews. Research participants reflected on their SEM experiences over the past decade and whether SEM can still be a useful tool for the future. Key SEM issues and practices were identified that resonate with Canadian senior enrollment leaders. Recommendations for professional practice are discussed, along with potential areas for further research.

smith-c--smClayton Smith, Ed.D., is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education, University of Windsor. He served previously as an enrollment manager at four postsecondary institutions in Canada and the United States. He is also Director of the AACRAO
Strategic Enrollment Management Conference and Senior Consultant with AACRAO Consulting. Dr. Smith received an Ed.D. from Florida State University.

gottheil-s--smSusan Gottheil, M.A., has worked at a variety of Canadian colleges and universities providing leadership in SEM planning and implementation and enhancing student and academic support services to improve student success. A former
co-coordinator of AACRAO’s Strategic Enrollment Management Conference, she and Clayton Smith established and organized the Canadian SEM Summit to help promote SEM in the Canadian context. Susan retired in 2019 from the University of Manitoba,
where she served as Vice-Provost (Students).

king-a--smAliyah King is a University of Windsor undergraduate student, majoring in behaviour, cognition, and neuroscience. She is an Outstanding Scholar, research assistant and a member of the Teaching International Students Research Group. Through the
Office of Human Rights, Equity, and Accessibility, she also serves as equity initiatives coordinator.
