The debate on the National Baccalaureate is still on hold: Opposition fire against the government
As the minister stated, the dialogue will not be pretentious , it will begin within the month and will concern all levels , from kindergarten to high school.
“The new admission system , if it emerges, will be applied to students currently studying in the first year of high school and will be the product of the consultation,” noted Mrs. Zacharaki, emphasizing that the national exams are not being abolished and clarifying: “What we will propose as a ministry is a dialogue that extends from kindergarten to high school .”
The minister has come out in favor of the National Baccalaureate because, as she said, “what is happening is that high school has become simply a vestibule for exams for so many years, unfortunately, it ends up completely diminishing the value of learning. I believe very much in counting all three grades , in not being able to judge your entire university entrance exam by just a three-hour test.”
Non-State Universities
Regarding the internationalization of higher education and Non-State Universities , the minister revealed that “there is strong interest from abroad in the establishment of new Non-State Universities. The new applications will be made by the end of February and will be examined and evaluated by the competent authority. Then we will also know which these foreign institutions will be, but we estimate that there will be around 5. Our goal is to give our children in Greece the opportunity to study in our country and not to leave to study abroad.”
Regarding major foreign universities such as Harvard and Yale, he said that they will have collaborations with public universities as part of their internationalization.
