The Margarita Maza National High School will begin activities in September with more than 30,000 students, as part of the 370 actions planned for this year, which will create 156,000 new spaces for young people, reported the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado Carrillo.
During the Sixty-Seventh Ordinary National Plenary Meeting 2026 of the National Council of Educational Authorities (CONAEDU), Delgado Carrillo highlighted the collaboration of state governments in the definition and preparation of properties destined for the new campuses of the Margarita Maza National High School.
He reported that this process is 95 percent complete , with 12 percent of construction work completed and 68 percent of alternate venues designated, the latter scheduled to become operational in September.
The model includes academic training and tutoring.
He explained that this new scheme is designed to reintegrate into the National Education System (SEN) young people between 15 and 17 years old who are currently out of school , through a model that combines academic training with cultural activities, sports, social integration and tutorial support.
Meanwhile, the Undersecretary of Upper Secondary Education, Tania Rodríguez Mora, pointed out that the modular model of the Margarita Maza National High School takes up the Common Curriculum Framework (MCC) and will allow it to be aligned with the different upper secondary education systems.
He emphasized that students will take face-to-face modules in areas such as Science, Epistemology of Thought, Communication, History and Society, with the support of tutors or guides.
He reported that in the coming days the call for applications to select tutors for the Margarita Maza National High School will be published, and those selected must have proof of degree or professional license.
The selected individuals will receive training and education to perform this role and will have financial support, he added.
Actions to promote the emotional well-being of students are being strengthened.
On another topic, Tania Rodríguez Mora highlighted that the national ABC of Emotions campaign is linked to actions to promote responsible cell phone use in schools and aims to strengthen the mental health and emotional well-being of children, adolescents, and young people.
He explained that this strategy, promoted by the SEP, the Ministry of Health and the Presidency of the Republic, includes socio-emotional activities in classrooms, training for teachers, teaching materials and spaces for dialogue with students and families.
As part of these efforts, seven million student guides, 700,000 teacher guides, and seven million guides for parents and guardians will be printed, in addition to 184,000 posters. These materials will be distributed on September 17 and 18 to elementary and high schools.
With these actions, the SEP reaffirms its commitment to expanding educational opportunities and providing students with a comprehensive education that addresses both their academic development and their emotional well-being.
