The Ministry of Education (Seduc) has launched the first national process of pedagogical supervision and teacher support, a strategy aimed at strengthening the quality of teaching and learning at the various levels of the Honduran education system.
The initiative is implemented by the Teacher Supervision and Support Unit of the Seduc and seeks to improve pedagogical processes in educational centers across the country.
According to official information, the event began on March 16 and will conclude on April 17.
According to the Seduc, the process is focused on guaranteeing access, retention and quality of education through systematic actions of pedagogical support directed at teaching staff in educational centers.
The project aims to reach 16,000 educational centers nationwide and benefit around 47,000 teachers, in order to strengthen their pedagogical practices and professional performance.
Authorities added that the supervision represents progress towards the continuous improvement of the education system, by ensuring that each center receives technical guidance and timely support.
Dennis Cáceres, Deputy Minister of Education, explained that, through various commissions at the central, departmental and district levels, as well as some exchanges of teachers between educational centers, it will be possible to verify how the teachers are working.
He clarified that the teacher support is exclusively pedagogical. “It’s to improve and monitor the pedagogical methods teachers are using, and to provide them with support so they can improve,” he said.
The official indicated that this first supervision is intended to reach out to teachers and let them know that “this administration is a friend of teachers, that we want to work with them in a harmonious relationship and that without them we cannot achieve the country’s educational indicators,” he pointed out.
Supervision is conducted using a pedagogical approach that prioritizes in-classroom teacher support to strengthen teaching practices. It also promotes a participatory approach that involves principals, teachers, and local authorities in the improvement processes.
