This is a mini-course that provides learners with a general knowledge of the historical events that have influenced the current higher education system. Using A-Z History of American Higher Education – A Primer for SEM Leaders written by Kimberley Buster-Williams and edited by Dr. Christopher Tremblay, learners will be able to apply the knowledge necessary to recognize and explain 54 of the 150 key events and individuals covered in the text. Learners will review landmark legislation such as the Higher Education Act (Title IV), Title IX, FERPA, ADA, and the Clery Act to enhance Compliance knowledge. Learners will also review the history of key Supreme Court decisions to enhance writing, interpreting, and implementing policy skills. Additionally, learners will understand the history of enrollment management and student access initiatives to support strategies to achieve student success. This course will help learners make connections between historical events and institutional decision-making to enhance leadership and support for strategic initiatives.
