Position Statement
My higher education career began in administrative and financial aid support at the Community College of Vermont before growing into admissions and, ultimately, the registrar’s office at Champlain College, where I have served as Registrar since 2018. Along the way I earned a Master of Science in Law, deepening my commitment to the policy and compliance dimensions of our work. I have presented at AACRAO’s Annual Conference, contributed to AACRAO’s publication on alternative credentials, and served on three AACRAO committees: Alternative Credit and Credentials, Small College Issues, and State and Regional Relations. Currently serving as an Alternate on the Nominations & Elections Committee, I am eager to step into a full member role.
My commitment to education extends well beyond my institutional role. As Chair of the Mount Mansfield Unified Union School District Board and a member of the Vermont School Board Association Board of Directors, I work at the intersection of community, policy, and educational access at the K-12 level as well. These roles have reinforced something I carry into every professional space: education changes lives, and the people who steward educational institutions at every level, bear a real responsibility to do that work with integrity and purpose.
The committee’s charge, soliciting nominations, building a slate of candidates for the Board of Directors, and conducting the committee election, shapes who leads AACRAO, and by extension, our profession. I want to contribute to that work with a particular focus on member connection and engagement. In my experience as NEACRAO Secretary and then President, the most important nominations work happens in the relationships: knowing your membership well enough to recognize emerging leaders, reaching out personally, and helping people see themselves as candidates before they think to raise their hand. I want to bring that same approach to AACRAO by deepening the association’s connection to its membership and expanding the pipeline of engaged, invested leaders.
I’ll be candid about something else, this role also represents meaningful professional development for me. Serving on this committee would broaden my understanding of AACRAO’s governance structure, deepen my relationships across the membership, and strengthen skills in outreach, facilitation, and organizational stewardship, that I can carry forward in my own leadership. I believe the best volunteers come to service with both something to give and something to gain, and I am genuinely excited about both.
