With nearly 25 years of experience in higher education administration, Dr. Sofia Almeda has held leadership roles across registrar, admissions, and enrollment management functions at a four-year public university and a health-related institution. She currently serves as University Registrar at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where she oversees student records, registration operations, and academic scheduling. She collaborates very closely with financial aid colleagues to ensure registrar processes align tightly with financial aid regulations.

Dr. Almeda earned a Master of Education degree from The University of Texas at San Antonio and a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University. She has served as President of both the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and the Southern Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. In addition, Dr. Almeda served as Chair of the Nominations and Elections Committee for the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. The daughter of a Mexican immigrant and a first-generation college student, Dr. Almeda is committed to advancing student success, enhancing the college student experience, promoting operational excellence, and exemplifying strong professional leadership within higher education.
