Position Statement
I am honored to submit my candidacy for the AACRAO Nominations and Elections (N&E) Committee. My motivation is rooted in a deep commitment to the sustained growth, integrity, and strategic vision of our professional community. Over the past 18 years in higher education, navigating complex academic environments, I have seen firsthand the critical impact of strong, visionary leadership. As the University Registrar and Chief Academic Data Steward at California State University, Fullerton, I build consensus, foster trust, and proactively adapt to evolving institutional needs. I bring this same dedication to my professional service, including my roles as VP of Membership for PACRAO and Co-Chair of Volunteer for the 2027 AACRAO Annual Meeting in Long Beach. Serving on the N&E Committee is a natural progression of this work—an opportunity to give back by identifying the next generation of leaders who will guide our organization forward.
If elected, my efforts will center on transparency, active engagement, and equity throughout the nominations and elections process. I aim to cultivate a highly diverse slate by utilizing established N&E methodologies to evaluate candidates who truly reflect our broad membership. Furthermore, I am committed to demystifying board service and amplifying engagement by actively promoting the process across caucus networks and at the Annual Meeting. Finally, I will leverage my background in data-driven, strategic enrollment management to methodically review candidates, ensuring their competencies align with AACRAO’s strategic initiatives.

Shelly Hsu is the University Registrar at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), where she directs all facets of academic records, registration, transfer credit evaluation, degree audit, and enrollment reporting for more than 40,000 students. With 17 years of progressive leadership in public research and comprehensive universities, she excels at streamlining policy, technology, and service to advance student success. Hsu’s tenure at CSUF is defined by innovation and measurable results. She led the first CSU‑system launch of the uAchieve Planner, giving undergraduates term‑by‑term roadmaps that integrate seamlessly with PeopleSoft registration.
Her team’s automation of transfer‑credit workflows, cutting evaluation turnaround time, partnered with IT to batch undergraduate degree conferral, which awarded 9,000 degrees in a single night with zero manual touchpoints annually. Shelly is an active member of AACRAO, PACRAO (where she currently serves as Vice President for Membership), and EDUCAUSE. Shelly earned her Ed.D. from California State University Fullerton, M.Ed. from Ohio University, and a B.A. from National Taipei University. Outside the office, she mentors emerging higher‑ed leaders, and enjoys exploring Southern California with her husband and daughter.
