Dr. Debra M. McCoy is a Certified Advanced Facilitator and Faculty member with the University of Phoenix’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences and BSSW Programs, as well as a researcher with the University of Phoenix Center for Educational and Instructional Technology Research (CEITR). She has previously served as an adjunct faculty member at Strayer University and as a research assistant at the University of South Carolina.
She holds a Ph.D. in Education from Capella University; a Master of Public Health, Master of Social Work, and Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from the University of South Carolina; and a Bachelor of Science in Recreation with a concentration in Therapeutics from Benedict College.
With more than 39 years of experience in public health and human services, she has served as a supervisor/manager, direct service provider, therapist, Licensed Master Social Worker, gerontologist, and consultant. Her career includes roles within several South Carolina public service agencies, including Disabilities and Special Needs, Mental Health, Health and Environmental Control, Education/SC First Steps, and Health and Human Services. She also served as Director of Social Work at Arista Hospice and currently serves as President and CEO of the Leroy S. McCoy Sr. HOPE Foundation.
Areas of Expertise: Micro and macro social work; human services curriculum and field education; professional licensing and practice standards; ethics and cultural competence; IDEA regulations for Early Intervention (Part C) and Special Education (Part B); program assessment, development, and evaluation; policy development; community analysis; organizational audits; compliance monitoring and reporting; continuous quality improvement; training and staff development; and public health services and policy management.
