Beth Armstrong

Beth Armstrong serves as Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and Director of University Scholarships and Financial Aid at Virginia Tech, where she leads a team of more than forty professionals administering approximately $600 million in federal, state, institutional, and private aid annually.  With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, financial aid, and enrollment management, she has built a career focused on expanding student access, improving operational effectiveness, and advancing strategic enrollment initiatives.
At Virginia Tech, Beth provides leadership for institutional financial aid strategy, scholarship optimization, compliance, and student financial services operations. She has led major initiatives including the implementation of financial aid leveraging, redesigning institutional grant programs, enhancing aid disbursement processes, and advancing collaborative enrollment strategies that support recruitment, retention, and affordability. She also serves on Virginia Tech’s IT Transformation Steering Committee, helping guide ERP modernization and cloud-readiness efforts across the university.
Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Beth held positions at Northern Arizona University, Indiana University Indianapolis (formerly IUPUI), Indiana University Bloomington, and Sallie Mae/USA Group. Throughout her career, she has developed expertise in financial aid administration, systems operations, compliance, customer service, enrollment management, and organizational leadership.
Beth is a Certified Financial Aid Administrator (FAAC) through the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) and has completed professional leadership programs through the Harvard Graduate School of Education, NACAC, SASFAA, WASFAA, and the ACE Women’s Network. She has served in numerous leadership roles within state, regional, and national financial aid associations, including as President of the Virginia Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (VASFAA) and as a member of the Coalition of State University Aid Administrators (COSUAA) Steering Committee.
Known for her collaborative leadership style and commitment to developing people, Beth is passionate about mentoring professionals, enhancing the student experience, and building sustainable systems that support both student success and institutional goals.
