In this issue of Connect, AACRAO spoke with these presenters who have adapted their institution’s internal processes to aid non-traditional transfer students and LGBTQA students.
Preferred Name and Pronoun at the University of Vermont: How We Did it and What We’ve Learned
In 2009, the University of Vermont became the first school to provide students the ability to enter a preferred name and pronoun in Banner. During this session, University Registrar Keith P. Williams will explain the impetus for putting this system in place. The session will cover how various member of the university community participated in the creation of the system, as well as how the registrar’s office used Banner to provide the technical aspects of the project. He will also share lessons learned throughout implementing the project.

Starting the Conversation: Strategies for Navigating the “New Transfer Student”
For the last five years we have seen a rapid shift in the educational requirements needed to obtain employment and to advance up the career ladder. We have also seen an increase in transfer students and those looking to go back to school. These factors have led to a change in attributes of the typical transfer student. This session, presented by John Ocasio and Mandie Corcoran will take an in-depth look at what the University of Arizona is doing to create a smoother transfer process for the new age of transfer students.
