Senate Delays Vote on College Sports NIL Bill Until After August Recess

The Protection College Sports Act, sponsored by Senators Ted Cruz and Maria Cantwell, which establishes federal rules governing college athletics and name, image, and likeness compensation, will not receive a vote until after the Senate’s August recess. The legislation recently received support from the Big Ten and SEC. The legislation would seek to rein in escalating college athletics spending by redefining certain third-party NIL arrangements and expanding the amount schools could share directly with athletes. AP News reports that the measure still faces opposition from the Congressional Black Caucus and the AFL-CIO.
