OMB Clears Trump Administration’s Title IX Rule for Release

The White House Office of Management and Budget has completed its review of a Department of Education rule to change Title IX regulations, clearing the rule for release. The text of the final rule has not yet been made public, leaving its specific provisions and publication date unclear. The action follows a federal court’s January 2025 decision vacating the Biden administration’s 2024 Title IX rule; the Department currently states that the 2020 Title IX regulations remain in effect nationwide. The administration’s regulatory agenda also includes a separate Title IX rule intended to align the regulations with President Trump’s executive order defining sex as biological male or female, although it is not yet clear whether the issue will be addressed in the final rule.
