Louisiana to Launch Workforce Pell Program

Louisiana Works launched the official rollout of the Workforce Pell initiative on July 1, making the state one of the first to implement the new federal program that extends Pell Grant eligibility to short-term workforce training programs outside of traditional degree pathways. Eligible colleges and training providers can now apply to participate, and once approved, students will be able to use federal financial aid to pursue credentials in high-demand fields including information technology, manufacturing, construction, and transportation and logistics, all aligned with Louisiana’s 4- and 5-Star Jobs framework to ensure programs meet employer needs. The initiative is a collaboration among Louisiana Works, the Board of Regents, the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, and employer and workforce partners, with the goal of reducing financial barriers to career training and strengthening the state’s talent pipeline. Governor Jeff Landry framed it as a way to help more Louisianans access good-paying jobs while giving employers the skilled workers they need to remain competitive.
