Dear Readers,
As you watch your learners cross the stage in their academic regalia, think of the history of the word “invest“—from Latin “investire,” meaning “to clothe or robe.” Each graduate, faculty, or staff member adorned in ceremonial robes represents a lasting investment: the clothing of minds with knowledge, community, and purpose.
It’s fitting that our profession is clothed in tradition. What activities will you pursue to invest in yourself and your craft? The word “activity,” from “activitatem,” once rooted in “brisk movement,” gained its educational meaning in the 1920s, a decade after AACRAO was founded in 1910. Remember that you’ve done more than process applications, grades, diplomas, and transcripts—you’ve invested in transforming lives and economies at scale.
In this issue, we explore ROI in education, international system models, strategic hiring, a new integrity task force, legislative updates, and the rising role of short-term courses. Make a plan to form new relationships over the summer and share and apply what you learn for future generations of practitioners.
