Florida Becomes Fourth State to Ban Undocumented Students From State Colleges

On June 30, 2026, the Florida State Board of Education voted to bar undocumented students from admission into colleges in the Florida College System, becoming the fourth state to do so as the Department of Justice continues to prosecute states that provide undocumented immigrants with in-state tuition. The Board also approved an amendment barring undocumented students from adult education programs, which provide GED preparation. According to the Higher Ed Immigration Portal, an estimated 8,000 undocumented students graduate from high school in Florida annually, and over 49,000 undocumented students are enrolled in Florida colleges. Inside Higher Ed reports that institutions could lose more than $15 million annually as a result of the new rule.
