Welcome to the new AACRAO website. While the site is live, development is ongoing, visitors can expect updates and new features in the weeks ahead.

The Education Department’s Student Privacy Policy Office recently published two interactive FERPA infographic resources. Their page on dual enrollment addresses how education records are handled for students who are simultaneously enrolled in high school and a postsecondary institution, explaining how access to those records depends on where they’re maintained and who is requesting them. The Inspect and Review page explains parents’ and eligible students’ FERPA right to inspect and review education records, covering how that right varies based on the type of record, the student’s age, the school of enrollment, and exceptions to FERPA’s prior written consent requirement. AACRAO Government Relations has learned of the possibility of a recent uptick in FERPA Inspection Requests, and while it is unlikely that SPPO releasing these resources contributed to a significant rise in new requests by students, we are continuing to monitor the situation and encourage folks to engage in the AACRAO Exchange if they do notice a change in behavior.
