ACE and CHEA Publish Summary of the Department of Education’s Proposed Rule on Accreditation

The American Council on Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation have released independent summaries of the Department of Education’s proposed Accreditation, Innovation, and Modernization regulations. The resources provide overviews of the proposed changes to the federal accreditation network, including requirements affecting accreditor recognition, institutional and program outcomes, transfer of credit, changes in accrediting agencies, and other accreditation policies. As a reminder, the Department is accepting public comment on its proposal through September 21, 2026.
