Faculty Spotlight

ann-m-koenig---headshot-154F04FD06DC9Ann M. Koenig has been an associate director with AACRAO International since 2002. Her career in international education spans more than 25 years, including foreign credential evaluation in professional evaluation services, and campus-based work in international undergraduate and graduate admissions, student records management, academic advising and transfer credit evaluation, at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, a University of Maryland University College program in Germany, Golden Gate University in San Francisco, and the University of California, Berkeley.

Ann has done in-depth research on education in several countries. She is the author of the ECE monograph An Overview of the Educational System of Albania (1993), co-author of the PIER workshop report on Poland (1992) and AACRAO Country Guide The Educational System of the Russian Federation (2008), and contributor to NAFSA’s A Guide to Educational Systems Around the World (1999), the AACRAO EDGE online database, AACRAO’s Guide to Bogus Institutions and Documents (2006), The AACRAO International Guide (2010 and 2016 editions), AACRAO’s Transfer Handbook (2015), the AACRAO quarterly journal College & University and AACRAO Connect.

A frequent workshop trainer and conference presenter, Ann specializes in sharing information on country educational systems, best practices in international academic record review and admissions, and academic credential fraud awareness. She has presented at professional development and training events sponsored by AACRAO, NAFSA, NAGAP, EAIE, and other organizations in the U.S. and Europe.

staciStaci Bernhard currently serves as the Senior Manager for Admissions, Recruitment, and Financial Aid at Florida International University’s Alvah H. Chapman, Jr. Graduate School of Business. She has over a decade of experience in all areas of the student pipeline from prospect to enrollment at both the undergraduate and graduate level.

Staci earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Education, and subsequently earned a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration with a focus in Counseling, both from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. As a Miami native, she considers Florida International University her home.

In her current role, Staci focuses on Agent Management, domestic and international credential evaluation for graduate level programs, and the admission process for a variety of programs within FIU’s Chapman Graduate School of Business. Due to her work with Agent Management, and the location of her home institution, the bulk of her credential evaluations are from India, China, Saudi Arabia, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

Wang

Wang Chao has almost a decade of experience in international education. She currently serves as the International and Graduate Examiner for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. Wang was born and raised in Taiwan and has lived in the United States since college.  Wang has held positions as an International Student Advisor, International Student and Scholar Services Specialist, and an Immigration Paralegal. Her experiences range from topics such as admission, recruitment, credential evaluation and immigration/academic advising. Since 2016. Wang has co-organized the Southern Colorado Designated School Official meeting and network that serves as an information hub/dissemination for the school officials from the Southern Colorado area.

lesleeLesLee Clauson Eicher earned her Bachelor of Arts in International Affairs and German at the University of Puget Sound. During this time, she studied abroad in Munich, Germany for a year. Upon graduation, LesLee changed coasts, and enrolled in the Master of Arts program in German Philology (History of German Language) at the University of Maryland, College Park. As a graduate student, and post-graduation, she worked in the International Education Services Office, which was her first introduction to the world of international admissions and credential evaluation.

LesLee has also taught German language courses to American undergraduate students at the university level, and English language courses to Austrian high school students while on a Fulbright Teacher Exchange program.

LesLee Clauson Eicher is currently an Associate Director at AACRAO International, telecommuting from her home in Washington State. LesLee does foreign credential evaluation, research, and delivers training on international education topics at regional and national conferences, and for AACRAO member institutions. She is a frequent contributor to and collaborator on international education publications and other AACRAO International projects.

julia-headshotJulia Funaki received her Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University and worked for the Columbus Council on World Affairs. She is currently the Associate Director of AACRAO International. Julia attended a graduate program at American University and worked in domestic and international admissions for the University. Upon completion of her Master’s in International Communication she took a job in the foreign student services office at Ohio Wesleyan University. After returning to Washington and completing a Master’s in International Education with an emphasis in Higher Ed Administration, Julia worked for the University of Maryland College Park in International Education Services. In 1996, Julia joined the staff at AACRAO. She has been involved with NAFSA and AACRAO as an author, presenter, and committee member and chair and serves on the faculty for the AACRAO Summer and Winter Institute.

 

 

Aleks MorawskiAleks Morawski is the Director of Evaluation Services at Scholaro Inc. He holds a BA degree from Marquette University and an MA degree from San Diego State University.

His professional experience includes credential evaluation at private agencies, international undergraduate and graduate admissions and recruitment at major US universities, and training and consulting on various topics in international education. Aleks served on NAFSA leadership and Trainer Corps since 2009. He is also one of the co-authors of NAFSA's Managing a Successful International Admissions Office, and is the chairman of scholarship and publications for AICE, the Association of International Credential Evaluators. He is a regular presenter at local, national, and international professional conferences. Beyond credential evaluation, Aleks enjoys mentoring new professionals in international education and advising academic organizations in the United States and around the world.

nacwaa-head-shot-(1)Leah McCormack is the Director of Eligibility Services at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. Leah graduated with honors from DePaul University with a Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and earned her MBA from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is an avid traveler, proficient in numerous languages, and has lived for short periods of time in Brazil and France. Leah helped establish the NAIA Eligibility Center’s international division and has been a leader in developing credential evaluation standards since the Eligibility Center’s inception. Leah has contributed to the field of credential evaluation in various capacities including, presenting at numerous national conferences, co-authoring a chapter in the most recent AACRAO International Guide, and is the incoming Chair for the Professional Activities Committee (PAC) International Admissions Committee.

 

 

annettaAnnetta Stroud began working with AACCRO in 2008 in the role of Senior Evaluator and Training Coordinator, and is currently the Associate Director for Training and Program Development. She has worked in the field of international education for over 17 years in both public and private institutions in various positions in international admissions and credential evaluation, student services and academic management. Her current role with AACRAO allows her to engage in the research of international comparative education and support the training of professional in the field, and has presented at various conferences including both AACRAO and NAFSA annual and regionals and the Education USA MENA Forum. Annetta holds a B.A. in Music from the University of New Mexico, M.A. in Adult Education from San Francisco State University, and an Ed.M. in Human Resource Development from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne.

Robert Watkins has been in the field of international education for 40 years, all spent at The University of Texas at Austin. Member of AACRAO, NAFSA, and EAIE, he chaired the NCAA International Student Records Committee 2002-11 and served on the AACRAO Board as Vice President for International Education 2009-12. He has been involved with the AACRAO EDGE project from its inception and is one of the members of the International Education Standards Council (IESC) which provides credential advice found in EDGE. He is a frequent presenter at AACRAO and NAFSA conferences.
