A diploma more focused on the final exams

The national diploma of the brevet is changing. Starting with this year’s session, final exams will now account for 60% of the final grade, and continuous assessment for 40%, compared to 50% for each method previously.

Continuous assessment will take into account the annual averages obtained in all compulsory subjects in the third year, and points above the average in optional subjects.

Furthermore, the average will now be calculated out of 20 (compared to 800 points previously).

The mathematics exam will now be divided into two parts, with a new 20-minute exercise on automatic skills, without calculators.

The requirements for proficiency in French are also strengthened, with particular attention paid to the quality of writing, spelling and syntax in the copies.

A new early mathematics exam for the baccalaureate

For high school students in general and technological tracks, an early mathematics exam is introduced in the first year of high school. Starting this session, it is added to the early French exams in order to better assess students’ fundamental skills.

Continuous assessment is also subject to enhanced oversight in order to ensure greater fairness among candidates across the country.

A vocational baccalaureate better suited to students’ educational paths

In vocational training, the schedule of assessments is changing to preserve learning time.

Furthermore, the range of professional qualifications is expanding with new specializations for CAP, vocational baccalaureate, vocational certificate and specialization certificates in order to respond to changes in professions.

Increased vigilance against fraud

To preserve equality between candidates and the value of diplomas, measures against exam fraud are strengthened from the 2026 session.

This evolution of examinations is accompanied by a strengthening of student preparation throughout the year, including regular training and mock exams organized in schools.
