The Contributor’s AI “How to”
AACRAO relies heavily on editorial contributions from members and other outside sources. This guide will help you understand how and when AACRAO will accept AI content.
Definitions
- Artificial intelligence (AI): Text, images, or translations generated from AI, machine learning, or similar algorithmic tools
- AI-assisted: Self-made content edited, refined, error-checked, or otherwise improved by AI.
- AI-generated: Content such as text, images, or translations created by an AI-based tool, even if substantial edits were applied after.
- Plagiarism: To steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own: use (another's production) without crediting the source.
- Ground Rules
- Originality: Ensure all work submitted is your own, representing your unique voice and ideas. AACRAO does not accept AI-generated content.
Contributors are permitted to submit AI-assisted content. However, contributors are responsible for verifying that all AI-assisted content adheres to all content guidelines, including compliance with all applicable intellectual property rights.
Acknowledgment and attribution: Follow your editor’s rules for acknowledging or citing AI use. If you’re uncertain, ask about it. The APA, Chicago Manual of Style, and MLA all provide guidelines for citing AI work.
Data security and safety: Any information you share with a public AI tool is no longer private and may be used in ways you can’t control. Guard your data and thoughts vigilantly – never share sensitive, personal, or confidential information about yourself, others, or your organization with AI systems.
