Today AACRAO leadership sent out the following message, inviting members to join in an important conversation.
The events of the last few weeks have been horrific.
The murders of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd have reminded us that “justice for all” remains an illusion for many of our citizens. Frustrated by years of unfulfilled promises of reform, feeling devalued and dehumanized, people are spilling into our streets to demand accountability. For many, including members of the AACRAO community, these events are deeply personal.
We are angry. We feel lost. We remain weary. We are also strong, determined, and resolute. We must join forces and recognize that—collectively—we do have agency, that our actions can make a difference. It starts by calling out racial injustice when you see it.
AACRAO will make every effort in the coming weeks and months to shine a light on racial injustice and inequality and create forums for you to engage and raise your voices. We must pull together for meaningful conversation, strategy, organization, and action.

"I can't breathe."
The isolation caused by the pandemic has intensified the pain we feel and at the same time emboldened our purpose to press forward. We need each other’s unconditional support.
