Enjoy autumn in the German state of Baden-Württemberg while engaging in a top-notch professional development opportunity: The Baden-Württemberg (BW) Seminar.

What do your colleagues say about their participation in the 2017 BW Seminar? Cynthia Welle, Assistant Director of International Education and Management & Technology Programs at University of California Riverside Extension said this:

Q: What did you like best about the BW Seminar?

A: The seminar was very well organized and not only did it present information on the full German education system, it also provided cultural experiences and daily opportunities for the delegation to process learning and network. The shared experience with US colleagues was incredibly valuable!

Q: What did you learn on the BW Seminar?

A: I really enjoyed learning about the Cooperative State University system. The nine universities in the system integrate theory and practical experience – students alternate classroom study with work placement throughout their years at university.

Q: What surprised you?

A: Freiburg and Baden-Wurttemberg are incredibly beautiful and charming; being on the edge of the Black Forest in the fall was a great experience.

Q: How did you share your new knowledge and information with colleagues at your institution and elsewhere?

A: I reviewed my experience in a staff meeting and have encouraged it as an excellent professional development opportunity. I was also able to share my experience with German partners – they were very interested in my experience.

Q: How did your job change as a result of participating in the seminar?

A: The experience gave me a lot of motivation in several ways, especially in how we showcase our own campus and country to our visiting partners. The BW seminar is exceptional in its organization, hospitality and learning outcomes.

Q: How would you encourage another AACRAO colleague to apply to go on the seminar?

A: I think it’s important to share an outline of the seminar schedule so prospective applicants can understand the full experience. [Editor’s note: stay tuned; we will be sharing a sample itinerary in the very near future.]
